Edu’s ready to seize chance

MAURICE EDU is hoping that November will provide him with the chance to consolidate a starting place in the Rangers midfield.

The 22-year-old made only his second start of the season in Tuesday night’s Co-operative Insurance Cup defeat of Hamilton.

But with tomorrow’s visit of Inverness kicking of a hectic November in which Gers will be in action on seven SPL occasions Ibrox gaffer Walter Smith will be forced to rotate his squad.

And Edu is hoping to seize any opportunity coming his way.

He said: “We have seven games rolling up in November starting with Inverness at Ibrox tomorrow and for us at Rangers the motivation has to be to go out there and win each game.

Vital Rangers Maurice Edu Profile

Maurice Edu was another summer signing that Walter Smith seemed to pull out of his sleeve, before the press got wind of the link as he signed from Toronto FC who are managed by none other than ex Gers and Celtic Legend Mo Johnstone.

It was apparently Mo Johnstone who first alerted Walter about the powerful 6ft1’ American Defensive Midfielder, who at the age of 22 has broken into the National Squad and is a permanent feature beside the likes of Clint Dempsey of Fulham and Rangers winger DeMarcas Beasley in a strong U.S.A. Team.

I must admit when I heard we had signed Edu I thought of former Arsenal midfielder Edu which I later found out many others had also.

Mo impressed after playing with Rangers Captain

Rangers new boy Maurice Edu had heard tales of Barry Ferguson’s sumptuous midfield skills on the other side of the world.

But, after playing alongside the Gers captain during Fergie’s injury comeback in Tuesday’s reserve game at St Mirren, the midfielder knows there was no exaggeration.

The former Toronto FC star was told all about the Rangers and Scotland skipper’s skills by Toronto FC director of football and former Ger Mo Johnston as MoJo helped do a first class selling job for the Light Blues on the USA international.

Q and A with Mo

Q: How do you like playing in Scotland?

Mo: It’s been good so far. I’m enjoying it. The fans out there are passionate fans, die hard fans. So it’s been good so far and I’m looking forward to getting back there and playing some more.

Q: What was it like to get on the field for the first time?
